Maitland Arts Center Cake

We love our little Artsy town of Maitland, FL and when were asked to create a cake inspired by the tiles at the Arts Center, we were so thrilled! We created purple "ancient flora" flowers to fit the venues Aztec feel.  The topper was provided by the client.

Honey-Inspired Wedding Shoot Featured On Wedding Chicks

Photographer Amalie Orrange wanted to create a southern honey-inspired wedding theme.
She had us at "honey"!

Our job was to design a wedding that incorporated warm, rich honey tones with an outdoor feel.
We also wanted to incorporate texture with some billowy ruffles on the center tier.
The shoot was done with an incredible team of vendors:
Amalie Orrange, Weddings By 2+ Hue, Cristina Severino, Weddings By Carly Ane's Floral Studio, and Dogwood Blossom Stationary & Invitation Studio.

Thanksgiving is peeking around the corner!

It’s the time of year for cornucopias, turkeys, and everything pumpkin!

One of our clients got into the spirit early for her birthday,
with this tasty vegan vegetable basket cake.

Our best client always orders cakes for friends and family throughout the year.
For her birthday, she wanted something that matched her healthy lifestyle.

This "carrot cake" is vegan friendly!

Tasty vegan cake tomatoes, artichokes and eggplant - yummy!

A vegan cake in the shape of vegetables was the perfect complement for her birthday,
which included health-related festivities that lasted for a week!

MTV’s ‘16 and Pregnant’ reality star Briana celebrates baby’s birthday with The Sugar Suite!

What a crazy surprise to receive a request for a special cake to celebrate the birthday of Briana’s 1-year-old baby Nova! The ‘16 and Pregnant’ reality star from MTV planned a garden theme for Nova’s birthday – Nova means butterfly – and wanted a beautiful, sunny cake from The Sugar Suite!

MTV invited Jennyfer to participate in a televised episode of Nova’s birthday party where she delivered the cake to Briana, Nova and their family.

Fun fact: Briana requested a chocolate cake, because she thought it would be messier for the baby. What a fun photo opportunity for Nova!

We’ll be sure to let you know when the episode is scheduled to air!

Fireworks inspired wedding cake

Marcy found fireworks everywhere she looked while planning her big day. She found the perfect invitation to match the guilded, sophisticated essence of fireworks.

Normally when a bride visits The Sugar Suite, she has a wedding theme, colors and inspiration; we take those ideas and design a wedding cake that embodies her style. With Marcy, she was already head over heels in love with a cake design. While dabbling on Pinterest, as many brides do, she stumbled across this cake and it was love at first sight!  She just needed an artist who could recreate it! We were up for the task.

This cake was THE cake for Marcy's firework-inspired wedding. Planning a wedding is always a unique experience. When a bride finds her perfect cake, we make sure to deliver what she is dreaming of!

The Sugar Suite's replication of Marcy's cake at the couple's Hammock Beach Resort reception.

(We haven't come across the inspiration cake since, so if you know who created it, let us know who we should credit for the original design!)

Wedding Dress Rose Inspired Cake

I love using fashion as inspiration for wedding cake design.  Especially when the bride is in love with her dress, as most are.  Our bride Laura Meeks came to us with this photo and her color swatches (yay for color swatches) and let us design something original.
Martina Liana 316

The first thing we did was to sketch our idea for the cake with a right cascade for a more modern placement.  The scripty "L" tied in with other design elements of the reception.  The main unique attribute - the bride wanted a gray cake! We love gray, but know that there is a fine line between a yuck gray and a beautiful greige, we tread lightly.
The bride loved the sketch, so we proceeded with the next phase.... testing our ideas.  At our bakery we use new or invented techniques every week, but try to iron out any wild card ideas way in advance in case the execution is not what the bride had in mind.  In this case we pinched fondant in a rose shape to get the three dimensional texture that makes the dress so rich and lush.  Here is the result of our test:
Although we felt like geniuses, it ended up not being what the bride had in mind. She really loved the graphic feel of the original sketch.  We decided to do the rose piping in the deep ivory/light yellow in her color swatches. The scripty "L" monogram was made of gumpaste and royal icing, custom made for the 4" topper.  Here was the final cake:

We love to hear what design details brides get excited about.  Taking those details and incorporating them in the cake design is even more fulfilling!  Thank you Laura for trusting us!

Jennyfer teaches wedding cakes at The Notter School

It was an honor to teach a wedding cake class at The Notter School of Pastry Arts, a European and design focused pastry school in Orlando founded by celebrity chef Ewald Notter.  Just four short years ago I was looking into The Notter School as a student, so personally it was an INCREDIBLE opportunity and milestone to be asked to teach their wedding cake class.  The students did an amazing job, and the last photo is of their mini wedding cakes!  They have some super talented instructors, and it was an honor to even be considered for this class!
